Keto coconut waffles




It's a rainy morning here so I felt like making up some scrumptious waffles.
Although I'm sticking to a strict keto diet that doesn't allow many carbs.  What's one to do?   Well honestly this is my second attempt at making low carb waffles, the last time I used keto protein powder and this time I'm  using some coconut flour.


To make these you'll need 

1/3 cup coconut flour 
1/3 cup cream
4 eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla extract 
1 tsp. Baking powder
Pinch of salt 

Instructions 
Grease and preheat waffle iron 
In a large bowl add eggs, vanilla and cream. 
Whisk together
Then add coconut flour, salt and baking powder right into wet ingredients.
Mix together completely.

Add batter evenly and cook for 4-6 minutes. 
Makes 3 waffles.

Toppings can include butter, berries, cinnamon, stevia sweetened whip cream or any no sugar keto friendly syrup or flavoring.

P.s.
If u left out the vanilla in the batter I think these would make an excellent keto bread substitute.

The bitter truth about sugar.





You may not realize just how much sugar you are actually consuming, 


Two hundred years ago, the average American ate only 2 pounds of sugar a year. In 1970, we ate 123 pounds of sugar per year. Today, the average American consumes almost 152 pounds of sugar in one year. This is equal to 3 pounds (or 6 cups) of sugar consumed in one week!See source and PDF

Research from UCSF University of California San Francisco explains,
Expert panels worldwide have made consistent recommendations on daily sugar intake. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends no more than 6 teaspoons (25 grams) of added sugar per day for women and 9 teaspoons (38 grams) for men.1 The AHA limits for children vary depending on their age and caloric needs, but range between 3-6 teaspoons (12 - 25 grams) per day. See full article

A quote from an article on Forbes.com titled "Research Shows Cocaine And Heroin Are Less Addictive Than Oreos"  talks about high fat and high sugar diets.
